This policy is a draft and is being reviewed. The rights it describes under the law of South Africa apply regardless.
How Marketplace (“we”) uses your personal information when you use Lekker Market, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
What we collect
- When you buy: your name, email, mobile number, delivery address, any recipient details and courier notes, and what you ordered.
- With an account: your login email and an encrypted (hashed) password.
- When you sell: identity and business details, documents for verification, and bank details for payouts. Bank and identity numbers are stored encrypted.
- When you browse: which share link brought you here, without storing your IP address.
We don’t receive or store your full card details; the payment provider handles them.
Why we use it
- To process, deliver and support your order, and to send you messages about it.
- To verify sellers and pay them, and to prevent fraud.
- To keep records the law requires, such as invoices.
- To send offers by email only if you ticked the box to receive them. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Who we share it with
Only what each needs: the seller of your items (name, phone, delivery address and what you bought, to send your parcel), the courier, our payment provider, and service providers who host our systems or send our messages. We don’t sell your information. Sellers may not use your details for anything except your order.
Cookies
We use cookies that are needed for the site to work: to keep you signed in, to remember your cart, and to remember your delivery details on your device if you choose to. A cookie remembers which share link brought you here for 7 days so the seller can see which posts work. We don’t use advertising cookies.
How long we keep it
Order and invoice records are kept for as long as tax law requires (generally 5 years). Other information is kept while your account is active and deleted or anonymised when it’s no longer needed.
Your rights
You may ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Contact us through the contact details on this page once they’re published. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).
Security
We protect your information with encryption, access controls and audit logs. If a security breach affects you, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
